Speaker’s initiative for his constituency

Gangtok:
Sikkim Assembly Speaker Mr. K. T. Gyaltsen visited his constituency, 23 Syari, Wednesday along with Secretary RMDD and other officials and representatives from P.W.D and Roads & Bridges Department.
There he visited present Nandok BAC office. There he said construction of the Block Development Office should be completed as soon as possible. He noted that the contractor has agreed to complete the office by December 2009 according to his direction.
He requested P.W.D engineers & officials to complete the Nandok road, the road from Saramsa to Nandok Secondary School & Nandok monastery road on priority.
The Speaker also requested Secretary R.M.D.D to provide a playground for Nandok Secondary School, Pabyuik (Naitam) Secondary School, and Lower Syari School. He visited the Shiva Mandir at Saramsa. He also drew attention of the Secretary to shortage of water supply and requested the engineers to visit the panchayat wards and to estimate for drinking water requirement. (With IPR input)

IPR Minister fully assuring to PCS

Miss Neeru Sewa was fully receptive and assuring to a Press Club Sikkim delegation led by PCS President Mr. Parasmani Dangal while they placed some demands in a meeting with the Minister at her chamber in State Secretariat office on Wednesday. The PCS demands were: a spacious flat for the club in the building of Science and Technology department at Development Area, a separate directorate in IPR department to deal with advertisements like the DAVP at the centre and increase in tariff of advertisements catered by IPR.
In the discussion that followed, the Minister said the government was very respectful to media and wanted to see media to work as an independent body. She opined that media should not be bias and ascertain the truth before publishing any news item.
She assured the journalists’ delegation, saying she would personally take interest to provide a suitable accomodation for the press club, while informing that the government would construct its own Suchana Bhavan within five years to accommodate IPR department. The delegation invited the Minister to be chief guest at the foundation day function of PCS to be held on 17th July.

“First surrender, then talk”, Bengal govt to Maoists
Kolkata: The West Bengal government Wednesday said it would not sit for any talks with the Maoists till they surrender.‘We are not ready for any talks with the Maoists. They must lay down their arms if they want us to hold any talks with them. We cannot hold talks as long as such kind of violence continues,’ Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty told reporters Wednesday.His statement comes a day after the Maoists said they want a ceasefire and are ready to talk to the government to negotiate the Lalgarh issue.
Meanwhile, acting on a tip off, the Kolkata police arrested Maoist spokesperson Gaur Chakraborty Tuesday night from Park Circus area under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the law the Centre used Monday to designate the Naxalite outfit as a terrorist organization. (Agencies)
